Emergency Eye Care When You Need It

Emergency care may be required in the event of any eye trauma as a result of an accident, scratch or contamination, as well as for any sudden onset of troubling symptoms, including infection, pain, swelling and blurring vision. It is essential for anyone experiencing these symptoms after a traumatic eye event to seek immediate medical attention in order to reduce the risk of vision loss and other types of permanent damage.

When an eye injury does occur, have an ophthalmologist or other medical doctor examine the eye as soon as possible, even if the injury seems minor at first.

A serious eye injury is not always immediately obvious. Delaying medical attention can cause the damaged areas to worsen and could result in permanent vision loss or blindness.

Because eye injuries can cause serious vision loss, it’s important to be able to recognize an injury and appropriately respond to it. DO NOT attempt to treat it yourself.
