Eye Safety

Common causes of workplace eye injuries are flying debris like metal pieces or glass, tools, chemicals, harmful radiation and eye strain due to digital devices. Most injuries occur when eye protection is worn but it is improper or ill-fitting and when eye protection isn’t worn at all. In an office setting, excessive computer, table and smart phone use throughout the day increases the risk of digital eye strain. Symptoms include blurred vision, dry eyes and headaches.

To prevent an eye injury at work, Prevent Blindnessprovides the following tips:

  • Know the eye safety hazards at work by completing an eye hazard assessment.

  • Eliminate hazards before starting work. Use machine guarding, work screens or other engineering controls.

  • Use proper eye protection that fits correctly such as non-prescription or prescription safety glasses, goggles, face shields, welding helmets or full-face respirators.

Earth Day

Happy 🌎 Earth Day! Contact lens wearers, have you ever disposed of your lenses in the sink or toilet? 🤨While it’s unlikely that it will result in a shark wearing the wrong prescription, contact lenses contribute to the microplastics in our water that can harm fish and enter the food supply. Luckily there are many ways to reduce this impact! 🙂 Learn more about how to dispose and recycle your contact lens here: https://www.allaboutvision.com/contact-lenses/recycle/

Sleep and our eyes

Did you get enough 💤?

Our eyes go through a lot during the day. After spending so many hours using your eyes, it's important for them to get enough recovery time when you're asleep.

When you don’t get enough sleep, your eyes can feel strained, dry and itchy the next day. Lack of sleep can cause eye strain, burst blood vessels and dry eye.

Your overall eye health depends on getting enough sleep, the right nutrient in your diet, and regular eye tests and checkups. Your eye doctor will evaluate the condition of your eyes and offer suggestions to improve both health and vision quality. If you would like to improve your vision, or you have questions about your eye health, make an appointment with Eye Florida today at https://www.eyeflorida.com. We offer a full range of eye care services for the whole family.
